In 2017 the South England Conference challenged local churches to make an impact and create a difference in their communities. In Liskeard, in the heart of Cornwall, the church rose to that challenge and created a 'recipe' for successful community involvement that works.

Last year the LiskearIMG_2451d church experimented with this 'recipe' which proved to be successful and those who those who partook, asked for more. The recipe is simply this:

'Add 1 or 2 local choirs. Mix it with the Liskeard Town Silver Band. Stir in 40 voices from the community to create a Scratch Choir. Sprinkle in a large dose of the mighty Ken Burton to teach them two songs in under two hours. Add the current local mayor and last year's mayor. Mix in around 450 visitors to sing six favourite hymns on cue. Don't forget two local organists and one teenage pianist. IMG_2460Then top it up, lavishly, with the awesome London Adventist Chorale, and you have the makings of an uplifting, spine-tingling two hours of praise, music and a community coming together like never before'. Not to forget, you have to do it on a Sunday evening at the end of September.

This is exactly what took place at Liskeard on Sunday 24 September. Halfway tIMG_2464hrough the community event, the local Food Bank representative, was invited to offer a word about the sterling work they do in Liskeard. Then a collection was taken raising more than £1300.

Thanks to the selfless talents of Ken Burton and the London Adventist Chorale, whom God used to bless the small town of Liskeard, to allow His Word to be proclaimed and His name to be praised.

The recipe would be prone to failure if you don't 'bake it at the right temperature' with the excellent local Adventist church and community volunteers, who worked their socks off behind the scenes to make this event a success.
