3 BAPTISED DURING HACKNEY REVIVAL
21st November 2018
There was rejoicing in Heaven as 3 precious souls returned to the Lord through a special baptismal service which took place during the culmination of a week-long revival at the Hackney Seventh-Day Adventist Church.
The One Life: We Can Make a Difference Revival, which took place from the 3rd-10th November, with guest speaker, Pastor John Parker, certainly made a difference in the lives of all who attended.
Throughout the week, gifts were given out to every visitor while prayers were offered for those needing relief from some of life’s struggles. Many of the singing evangelists were all home grown Hackney members including Myrtle O’Keefe, Adrian Blake, Stephanie Charles and Michaela Mathieu-Marius. Saxophonist, Michael Messiah, made a profound impression on the congregation with his jazz infused style of the Gospel classic, Wade in the Water.
Yet, with all that took place during the week, it was the God inspired messages from Pastor Parker which resonated most with everyone. Pastor Parker, who ministers in the New Heights SDA Church in Jackson, Mississippi (USA) is no stranger to Hackney Church, having spoken during a highly successful evangelistic campaign there some 11 years ago, which resulted in the baptism of some 24 individuals – a record which had yet to be surpassed.
Records aside, everyone, from the church leadership to the ordinary lay member described Pastor Parker as a deeply spiritual and humble man of God with a passion for soul winning. Having just led out in campaigns in North Carolina and then California within the last month before his trip to London showed how committed Pastor Parker was and is in spreading the good news of salvation with everyone. The messages he shared in Hackney were all spirit-led and with a view to bring revival to the church.
In one of his messages entitled No Prayer, No Power, which focused on the power of the Holy Spirit coming upon the disciples when they came together and prayed in one accord, Pastor Parker was understandably emotional at the presence of one of his closest friends among those in the congregation. Former Hackney Pastor, Michael Mannix, who had recently suffered a life threatening stroke, had made a surprise trip to the church on that particular day.
Not only had the Pastors studied together at Oakwood College (USA) in 1983 but Pastor Mannix had also been responsible for inviting Pastor Parker to Hackney for the first time all those years ago. Upon seeing his friend, Pastor Parker said with some joy, “You being here is an example of what prayer can do. When the church comes together and prays in the name of Jesus, great things can happen.”
The revival came to an celebratory conclusion with the baptism of 3 precious souls – Mother and daughter – Denise White and Amber Sapphire Pearl White along with Lystra Alexis all returning to the Lord and in so doing rewriting the record books with 27 baptisms in Hackney having occurred during the ministry of this humble yet deeply spiritual and inspiring man of God.
